Tennessee Southern Bisects Day One with Bethel

McKENZIE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team split the twin bill with the Wildcats dropping the first game 8-3 and claiming the nightcap 6-4 on Saturday.

GAME ONE

Trailing by one, UTS would get on the board in the second on a Haley Barnes single that scores Allie Toone. BU would lead after two 2-1.

In the seventh, Makenzie Cain would triple driving in Syndey Self and Abigail Hornbuckle.

Kamryn Murdock would take the loss working 3.1 innings. Murdock would allow five earned runs on eight hits. Ana Aaron would toss 2.2 innings. Aaron would allow three earned runs on two hits.

GAME TWO

The Firehawks would score a run in the first frame. Kaley Ezell would double scoring Cain. UTS would trail 2-1 after one.

Stella Gilbreath would double in the third scoring Ezell. UTS would draw even with the Wildcats at two each.

In the fifth, Cain would single scoring Self. Gilbreath would double allowing Ezell to score. UTS would take the lead 4-3 after five.

UTS would add two runs in the seventh. Kaley Ezell would double scoring Cain. Later in the inning, Kayla Lawrence would double scoring Emily Gable. BU would add one in the final half.

Gilbreath would pick up the win in the complete game performance. She allowed four earned runs on six hits and retired four BU batters on strikes.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will wrap up the series with Bethel tomorrow at the Kahlden Complex. The rubber match is set to begin at 1 pm.
