Firehawks Unroost Owls in Twin Bill

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball swept Mississippi University for Women in a pair on Wednesday. UTS took game one 7-4 and took game two 7-5.

GAME ONE

Kaley Ezell would single in the first scoring Sydney Self. Both teams would be tied at one after one inning.

Abigail Hornbuckle doubled to left center scoring Stella Gilbreath. UTS would lead 2-1 after two.

Kayla Lawrence would score on a wild pitch in the third. UTS would lead 3-1 after three.

Gillbreath would single in the fifth scoring Makenna Birdsong. MUW would score three in their half to tie the game at four after five innings.

Lawrence would double in the sixth scoring Mckenzie Cain. Birdsong would single to left driving in Lawrence. UTS would retake the lead 6-4 after six.

In the final inning, Gilbreath hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Allie Toone.

Bailey Abernathy would toss a complete game securing the win. Abernathy would allow four earned runs on six hits.

GAME TWO

Haley Barnes doubled to right center scoring Ezell and Lawrence in the opening frame. Hannah Branam would single scoring Barnes. UTS would lead 3-1 after one.

In the second, Gilbreath would double to drive in Cain and Toone. UTS would hold the 7-1 lead after two.

Kamryn Murdock would toss two innings in the start. Murdock would allow one earned run on three hits. Jayci Boozer would pick up the win by throwing the final five innings. Boozer would allow four runs on five hits.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to the friendly confines of Royce Hughes Field hosting Bryan on Tuesday, April 18th. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
