Firehawks Sweep Season Series With Ambassadors

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team peppered Oakwood Field with base hits in a pair of wins over Oakwood on Wednesday. UTS took game one 11-2 and run-ruled the Ambassadors 17-2 in the final game.

GAME ONE

In the fourth inning, Carlie Pendley singled to third scoring Hannah Branam. Later in the inning, Sydney Self doubled to right driving in Pendley and Kayla Lawrence. UTS would break the tie to lead 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Lawrence would single in the sixth scoring, Kaley Ezell. Pendley would attempt to sacrifice Lawrence to second, but an Oakwood error would allow Lawrence to score. Allie Toone would single to left to allow Pendley to score. Makenzie Cain would blast a shot down the right field line and cash in the inside-the-park homer driving in Toone. UTS would lead 8-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

Ana Aaron would notch the win in the quality start. Aaron would toss six innings allowing one earned run on three hits. Aaron would fire up nine strikeouts in the game. Bailey Abernathy would toss the final frame recording one strikeout.

GAME TWO

The Firehawks would explode for eight runs in the top half of the first. Cain would score on a passed ball. Haley Barnes would single to center scoring Ezell. Jordyn Thornton would single to left driving in Barnes and Anisten Burleson. Thornton would score on a throw after a dropped third strike. Emily Gable singled to center scoring Toone. Gable would score later on an OU passed ball.

Gable would drive in Thornton with her single in the second. Cain would double to left scoring Toone and Gable. UTS would lead 11-2 after 1.5 innings.

In the third, Barnes doubled to left scoring Branam. Thornton singled to center driving in Burleson. Abigail Hornbuckle hit a sacrifice fly to center allowing Barnes to score. Cain would triple to left driving in Toone and Thornton. UTS extended their lead to 16-2.

In the fourth, Toone would single driving in Branam.

Jayci Boozer would notch the complete game win. Boozer tossed five innings allowing four hits and two earned runs.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to the friendly confines of Royce Hughes Field hosting the #3 Freed-Hardeman Lions on Saturday, April 1st. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
