Firehawks Sweep Ambassadors in Twin Bill

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team took advantage of two big innings to end game one with Oakwood early by the count of 8-0, and held on to win game two 4-2 on Monday.

GAME ONE

Kayla Lawrence got the Firehawks on the board with a two-RBI double to score Kaley Ezell and Stella Gilbreath. In the next AB, Hayley Barnes' single to plate Lawrence. UTS held the 3-0 lead after one.

In the third, Lawrence would smash a long ball off the left field foul pole to extend the lead to 4-0.

In the fourth, Ezell would double to left, scoring Sydney Self, Makenzie Cain, and Carlie Pendley. Lawrence would single to score Ezell giving UTS the 8-0 lead.

Gilbreath would move to 4-1 on the season. She would allow two hits and strike out three. Jayci Boozer would toss the final frame striking out a pair.

GAME TWO

Karlee Wright would triple in the first scoring, Abigail Hornbuckle. UTS would lead 1-0 after one.

Cain would pick up two RBI scoring Allie Toone and Jordyn Thornton in the second. The Firehawks held a 3-0 lead after two.

In the fourth, Megan Parrott would single to left allowing Heidi Garner to score extending the UTS lead to 4-0.

Oakwood would muster up a pair of runs in the seventh, but the Firehawks would hold on for the win.

Kamryn Murdock would take the win working three innings and allowing one hit. Bailey Abernathy would toss three innings allowing one hit. Both Murdock and Abernathy would fan four each. Macey Ciramella would toss the final inning allowing one earned run on one hit.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will hit the road traveling to Lebanon, Tenn. to face the Phoenix on Friday, March 24th. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
