Firehawks Spilt Final Pair with Bears

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team held on to win game two 11-7 after it was suspended yesterday, but the Firehawks fell in six innings to the Pikeville in the series finale 10-2 on Saturday.

GAME TWO

Mckenzie Cain would homer in the first putting the Firehawks in the lead.

Stella Gilbreath would single in the third scoring Cain. Kaley Ezell blasted the second round tripper of the game for UTS scoring Gilbreath. UTS would lead 4-0 after three.

The Bears would take the lead scoring seven runs in the fourth and fifth combined. The Firehawks would answer with another long ball. Kayla Lawrence would laser a two-run hit out of the park scoring Hannah Branam. Anisten Burleson would single scoring Syndey Self and Cain. After six, UTS had retaken the lead 8-7.

In the seventh, Abigail Hornbuckle would reach on a UPike error allowing Lawrence to score. Cain would blast a shot to left field scoring Hornbuckle. Gilbreath would single later in the inning scoring Cain.

Gilbreath would move to 3-1 on the strong start spanning two days. She would allow five earned runs on five hits and striking out four. Kamryn Murdock would toss 0.2 innings allowing two earned runs on one hit.

GAME THREE

Ezell would double in the fourth scoring Gilbreath. UTS would trail the Bears 4-1 after four.

Kaitlynn Garner would pick up an RBI scoring Gilbreath in the sixth.

Ana Aaron would take the loss working 1.2 innings allowing two earned runs on two hits. Jayci Boozer would toss 2.1 innings allowing a pair of earned runs on five hits. Gilbreath would toss 1.2 innings giving up five earned runs on six hits. Bailey Abernathy would allow a hit in a limited appearance.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to Royce Hughes Field to host Oakwood on Monday, March 20th. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
