#24 Tigers Escape Pulaski with a Pair of Wins

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team came up short in the final pair of games in the weekend series with #24 Campbellsville at Royce Hughes Field on Saturday. CU took game two 13-6 and retire the Firehawks in an 11-2 win in the final game.

GAME TWO

The Firehawks fell behind early after the Tigers would plate a trio in the first and a pair in the second. Anisten Burleson's sacrifice bunt would allow Makenzie Cain to score in the first. Sydney Self would triple scoring Haley Barnes in the second. Later in the inning, Cain would draw a free pass pushing Self across the dish. Abigail Hornbuckle would hit a sacrifice fly to allow Emily Gable to score. After two, UTS would trail 5-4.

In the third, Self would drive in Hannah Branam via a sac fly to even the score at five.

UTS would push across another run in the fourth. Barnes would single drive in Cain. UTS closed the gap to 9-6

Stella Gilbreath would take the loss. She would toss four innings allowing five earned runs on four hits. Ana Aaron would work an inning allowing three earned runs on one hit. Macey Cirmella would hurl the other two innings. Ciramella would allow five earned runs on four hits.

GAME THREE

The Firehawks got on the scoreboard first, but the Tigers would come alive to take the win.

Kaley Ezell's sac fly would score Gilbreath to put UTS on top 1-0 after one.

Cain would triple in the seventh driving in Barnes.

Kamryn Murdock would take the loss. Murdock would toss 4.2 innings allowing seven earned runs on nine hits. Jayci Boozer would hurl 1.2 innings allowing four earned runs on a pair of hits. Ciramella would work 0.2 innings holding the Tigers at bay.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will hit the road traveling to Pikeville, Ky. to take on the Bears on Friday, March 17th beginning at 1 pm.
