Firehawks Trounce Tigers, UTS Advances to Play Winner of Bethel/Campbellsville Tonight

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team kept their MSC Championship run alive with a 2-0 win over Georgetown (17-31) today. UTS will take on the winner of an elimination game between Campbellsville and Bethel.

UTS (27-24) struck in the second inning starting with a leadoff walk by Samantha King. Kayla Lawrence would smash a double to right field moving King to third. Hayley Barnes would reach on a Tiger error which allowed King to score. Carlie Pendley would plate Lawrence on an RBI groundout. The Tigers would couple up a pair of hits in the final frame but would strand those runners. King (14-6) tossed the complete-game shutout allowing only four hits. She walked a pair and fanned six.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks grind to stay alive tonight against the winner of an elimination game between Campbellsville and Bethel at 7 pm. Campbellsville took the season series with UTS 3-1, and UTS took the season series with Bethel 3-1. UTS sent Bethel to the loser's bracket with a 7-1 win on Thursday.
