No. 3 Freed Sneaks by Firehawks, UTS Plays Georgetown Tomorrow

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team suffered their first loss of the MSC Championship final site today against top-seeded #3 Freed-Hardeman by the score of 3-1. UTS draws Georgetown tomorrow in an elimination game at 11 am. UTS had numerous chances to push runs across, but could not take advantage.

UTS (26-24) loaded the bases in the opening frame but would strand all three runners on base. The Lions (46-3) got on the board first via a single in the first.  They would double the lead in the fourth on a throwing error by the Firehawks. In the fifth, FHU would plate another run on a sacrifice fly to lead 3-0. UTS would answer back in the sixth when Senior Bree Brady would blast a solo shot to left-center to draw the Firehawks closer at 3-1. Freed would close the door on the Firehawks in the seventh to take the win. Senior Samantha King took (13-6) the loss pitching four innings and allowing only one earned run. Senior Savannah Sands would pitch the final two frames allowing only a hit and a run.

The Firehawks play to stay alive tomorrow against sixth-seeded Georgetown at 11 am. Georgetown took the regular-season series 3-1 in Pulaski.
