Firehawks Open Southern States Athletic Conference Play with a Win Over Toppers

RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's tennis team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play with a 6-1 win over Blue Mountain Christian on Thursday. The Firehawks claimed each point with exception to one singles match.

UT Southern took the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Shizuya Kubo and Martin Cabrera won 6-4, Rage Matuck and Felipe Dias won 6-2, and Gaspar Audisio and Nickolas Rosa won their doubles match 6-2. UTS led 1-0 lead after doubles.

In singles, UTS fell one point short of a sweep earning five out of six singles wins. Cabrera won the #3 match 6-0, 6-3. Rosa won in two sets in the #2 match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Matuck took the #6 match 6-1, 6-2. Audisio claimed the #4 match 6-1, 6-3. Kubo took the #5 match 6-4, 7-5. Dias fell in three sets in the #1 match 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (5-7).

UT Southern will travel to West Tennessee to battle Lane College and Bethel on Sunday, March 10th.
