Firehawks Close Out Fall With a Pair of Third Place Finishes

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Firehawk men and women swim teams competed at the 8th annual Igloo Invite this past weekend against some quality competition as they wrapped up their Fall slate of competition.  The two-day invitational saw UTS compete in a championship-scored meet against MSC schools: Bethel and Campbellsville, as well as DIII program Sewanee.

The Lady Firehawks swam away with multiple school records - 14 of the 19 total school records were broken over the weekend.  The ladies finished 3rd and were led by Freshmen Alli Wells.  Wells won both the 100 and 200 backstrokes in school record performances and National B cut standards.  She also placed 2nd in the 1650 Freestyle in a school record performance.

Three relay races competed on day one of the invitational and all three were school records.

On day one, the men's team saw Freshmen Dayan Rodriquez and Junior Daniel Villanueva square off in the 200 IM Finals, finishing 2nd & 3rd.  Rodriquez finished just shy of his school record in the race that he set in the prelims.  Rodriguez also set the school record in the 100 breast in the prelims of day one.

Day two of the competition saw much of the same as day one for the ladies. The quartet of Wells, Corbitt, Mullis, Chavez broke the school record in the 400 Free relay, and en route, Wells broke the 100 free school record as the leadoff.

Like the ladies, the men's team saw similar success on day two. Freshmen Grady Wheeler came in 2nd in the 50 free, Swanson placed 2nd in 100 back,  Rodriguez placed 2nd in his 200 Breaststroke.

The men and women now have a break from competition until the Spring semester when they travel to MSC opponent Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.
