Firehawks Blaze Competition at Midway Quad Meet

VERSAILLES, Ky. – On Saturday, 10/22/2022 the UTS swim programs traveled to Versailles, Kentucky to compete against Midway University, University of Pikeville, and Union College all in head-to-head dual meets.   The women came away with two victories, with wins against Pikeville University (162-19) and Union College (165-0).  They fell to MSC rival Midway University (127-93).  The men swam away from the competition, defeating all three opponents: Midway (162-55), Pikeville (179-13), and Union (148-56). 

On the women's side of the meet, it was a day full of breaking school records.  The Lady Firehawks were led by Freshmen Alli Wells & Becca Corbitt and Sophomores Anna Grace & Mikayla Chavez.

To start the meet, the quartet of Wells, Corbitt, Brosch, and Chavez broke the school record in the 200 Medley Relay with a final time of 2:02.47

Alli Wells swam to first-place finishes and school records in the 100 Back, 200 Back, and 200 IM.  Becca Corbitt broke school records in both the 100 and 200 Breast.  Sophomore Anna Grace broke the school record in the 500 Freestyle and Sophomore Mikayla Chavez broke school records in the 50 Free and 100 Fly. 

To finish the meet, the quartet of Blackwood, Hastings, Faulds, and Mullis broke the school record in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 2:08.92.

On the day, the Lady Firehawks broke a total of 8 school records.

On the men's side of the competition, the quartet of Swanson, Rodriguez, Villanueva, and Wheeler started the meet off with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:41.03, finishing over five seconds faster than 2nd place, Midway University. 

The team was led by Freshmen Grady Wheeler & Dayan Rodriguez as well as Sophomores Daniel Villanueva and Matt Swanson.  Each of them finished the day with two individual victories.  Wheeler (50/100 Free), Rodriguez (100/200 Breast) with a school record in the 100 Breast, Villanueva (200 Fly/200 IM), and Swanson (100/200 Back). 

Finishing the meet with the 200 Free Relay, the quartet of Swanson, Morrison, Rodriguez, and Wheeler raced to a victory with a time of 1:36.26, again finishing over five seconds faster than 2nd place Midway University.

The Firehawks will travel to Memphis, Tenn., to take on NCAA DIII powerhouse Rhodes College on Friday, November 11th.
