PULASKI, Tenn. - The UT Southern swim program played host to conference rival Bethel University Friday afternoon in the team's first meet of the year and only home dual meet of the season.  It was an exciting and historic afternoon competing in Grissom Natatorium.

On the Men's side, the Firehawks defeated Bethel 135-99.  The victory marks the men's first victory of the season and moves them to 3-0 All-Time in Grissom Natatorium, with victories against Williams Baptist and Bethel last season.

The men won eight of the 14 races with Junior Daniel Villanueva notching three individual victories (800 Free, 200 Fly, 100 Fly), Junior Matt Swanson (200 Free, 200 Back) & Freshmen Grady Wheeler (50, 100 Free) each with a pair of victories.  The three of them and Freshmen Dayan Rodriguez teamed up to start the meet to win the 200 Medley Relay.

On the women's side of the meet, the Firehawks defeated Bethel 115-113.  The closely contested meet marks the women's first-ever dual meet victory.

The women won six of the 14 races and were paced by Freshmen Alli Wells with three individual victories (800 Free, 100 Back, 200 Back) and two first-place finishes by Sophomore Mikayla Chavez (50 Free, 100 Fly).  The quartet of Wells, Corbitt, Chavez, and Brosch kicked the meet off with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay.  All nine Lady Firehawks who competed played a crucial role in scoring points for the women to come away with the team victory.

Next up for the men and women is a Tri meet against Midway University and Union College on October 22 in Versailles, Kentucky.
