Firehawks Score Four Unanswered Goals to Unarm the Knights

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer squad scored the first and final four goals in a 5-2 win over Middle Georgia State on Thursday.  

UT Southern (8-4-1, 3-3-1) would score a pair of goals in the opening half. Noah Stahlfest would net the first goal of the match on a double helper by Manuel Flores and Hector Garcia. Middle Georgia (0-12, 0-8) would stun the Firehawks with a quick pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead. Just before the half, Kota Tsuchisawa would shoot one past the Knight keeper. The play was set up by George Grice and Rostand Essomba. UT Southern would lead in shots 8-3.

In the final half, the Firehawks would add three more scores to seal the match. Kenshin Yasujima would net the game winner finishing the Noa Yaguoubi and Louise Alexandre-Merabli passes. In the 76th minute, Mak Binder would score on a play set up by Grice. In the 89th minute, Middle Georgia would fire in a corner, but Ajay Murray would punch it into the midpitch. Alexandre-Merabli would race down the field and past the keeper to net an empty netter. UT Southern would outshoot the Middle Georgia State 17-6 and hold the shots on goal advantage 8-2.

Murray (6-4-1) would allow a pair of goals in the win.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will host the Barons of Brewton-Parker on Saturday, October 14th. The SSAC match will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. UT Southern will hold senior day activities between the twin bill.
