Flores and Yasujima Each Brace, Firehawks Bombard Bearcats

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team used a battery of goals to defeat Brescia 8-nil on Wednesday.

UT Southern (5-1) scored three times in the opening period to lead 3-nil at the half. In the 25th minute, Manuel Flores (Konstantinos Theodorakis assist) rifled a shot past the Brescia (0-5) keeper netting the game winner. Flores (Louise Alexandre-Merabli assist) would complete a brace netting the second Firehawk goal in the 37th minute. With less than a minute left in the half, Kenshin Yasujima intercepted a Bearcat pass and lit the scoreboard for his first go of the match. UT Southern would lead 13-3 in shots at the half.

In the second half, the Firehawks would tack on five more goals in the rout.  Louise Alexandre-Merabli would finish the Manuel Villena lag in the 49th minute. Manuel Silva scored in the 54th minute from a Yasujima pass. Three minutes later Yasujima would net his second once again from a Brescia turnover. Newcomer Noah Stahlfest would score in the 80th minute. Once again, the Firehawks would find the net in the final minute. George Grice would chip in a corner kick and find the head of Dakota Jackson who found a wide-open Ezekial Opie for the final Firehawk goal. UT Southern held the shot advantage 31-6 and led in shots on goal 18-2.

Ajay Murray (5-1) recorded two saves and shared the clean sheet with Michael Anderson.

The Firehawks will travel to Blue Mountain, Miss., on Saturday, September 16. The action opening SSAC play will kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
