ATHENS, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team scored a goal in each half to fly by Tennessee Wesleyan 2-1 on Thursday 19. The win is the first career win for interim head coach Bret Boylan.
TWU (0-1) would dominate the early going recording the first seven shots in the match. UT Southern (1-0) would get on the board in the 39th minute on a shot by Noa Yaguoubi on the Manuel Flores pass. TWU would lead in shots 8-2.
In the second half, the Firehawks would hold the early lead until a late foul with just over a minute left on the clock. The foul would prove costly as it awarded a PK to pull the home squad level with the Firehawks. Trying to avoid a season opening tie, Kenshin Yasujima chip one past the keeper to cage the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would outshoot the Firehawks 11-5 and would lead shots-on-goal 4-3.
Ajay Murray (1-0) was credited with the win. He faced four shots and allowed one goal. Yan Rosado also played between the sticks and didnt face a shot.
