Davies and Jones Names Coaches of the Year, Galan Named Defender of the Year, Seven Firehawks Earn Mid-South All-Conference Honors
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The 2022 Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer season awards have been released, conference officials announced on Tuesday.
Cumberlands' (Ky.) Pablo Vazquez was named the MSC Player of the Year while Tennessee Southern's Carlos Galan earned MSC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Lindsey Wilson's Sadam Masereka was voted the MSC Freshman of the Year. Tennessee Southern's Brian Davies was named the MSC Coach of the Year while Taylor Jones was voted the MSC Assistant Coach of the Year.
Conference coaches vote on the seasonal awards along with the all-conference teams. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Vazquez has started 14 games in goal for the Patriots. He has allowed just nine goals with 33 saves and has recorded five shutouts. His 0.63 goals-against average ranks 15th in the NAIA. In conference play, Vazquez allowed just five goals while recording three shutouts.
Galan has 29 points this season with 11 goals and seven assists. His 11 goals are tied for second-best in the MSC and his 29 points rank third. Galan scored eight goals in MSC play this season. He also tallied five game-winning goals which rank seventh in the NAIA.
Masereka scored 10 goals in his freshman season for the Blue Raiders. He added five assists for a total of 25 points. His 10 goals this season are ranked fourth in the conference while his 25 points are fifth in the MSC.
Davies and Jones led the Firehawks to a 13-3-1 record and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with a 7-2-1 record in the MSC. This was the first conference championship for Tennessee Southern.
17 players earned first-team honors with 14 student-athletes earning a spot on to the second team. 10 student-athletes earned Honorable Mention status in addition to the first and second-team honorees.
