Firehawks to Host Mid-South Championship Semifinals and Finals at Grissom Pitch

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Univeristy of Tennessee Southern men's soccer will host the Mid-South Conference semifinals and finals at Grissom pitch next week. The semifinals will be held on Nov. 9th, and the finals with be on Nov. 11th.

MSC CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE

  • Semifinal #1
    • #1 seed Tennessee Southern vs. #4 seed Lindsey Wilson at 3pm on November 9th.
  • Semifinal #2
    • #2 seed Bethel vs. #3 seed Cumberlands at 5:30 pm on November 9th.
  • Finals
    • Winner of game 1 vs. winner of game 2 at 3 pm on November 11th.

 

Top-seeded Tennessee Southern, No. 2 seed Bethel (Tenn.), No. 3 seed Cumberlands (Ky.) and fourth-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) all picked up victories in the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Quarterfinals.

The four winners advance to the tournament semifinals on November 9 which will be hosted by Tennessee Southern.Tennessee Southern will face Lindsey Wilson and Bethel will face Cumberlands.

#2 Bethel defeated #7 Thomas More 3-2 (2OT)

The Wildcats (12-3-2) held an 18-12 edge in shots and a slight 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Nathan Ortiz got Thomas More (10-6-2) on the board first in the sixth minute. Bethel would finally breakthrough on the scoreboard early in the second half. Sergio Baguena tied the game in the 49th minute.

Bethel then took the lead in the 81st minute with a goal from Alvin Oguta with Stefan Kokovic picking up the assist. Thomas forced overtime scoring the equalizer in the 89th minute. Finn Battenstein made it 2-2 with Thomas Wolfe earning the assist. After a scoreless first overtime, Bethel went ahead in the 104th minute on an Isaac Stanley goal.

#4 Lindsey Wilson defeated #5 Cumberland 3-0

Box Score

Three different Blue Raiders (8-6-3) scored in the victory while Pablo Costa recorded four saves for the shutout. Lindsey Wilson struck first in the 24th minute with a goal from Monwabisi Mngqibisa with Alexander Koziolek picking up the assist. 

The Blue Raiders added to their lead in the 47th minute with a goal from Jean Wilkes. Anouar Adam made it 3-0 in the 71st minute with Mngqibisa picking up the assist. Lindsey Wilson had a 14-10 edge in shots over Cumberland (8-4-3) and a slight 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

#1 Tennessee Southern defeated #9 Shawnee State 2-0

Box Score

The Firehawks (13-3-1) outshot the Bears (11-8) 14-9 and held a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. After a scoreless first half, Tennessee Southern got on the board first in the 53rd minute with a goal from Manuel Otero. Manuel Flores increased the Firehawk lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute.

#3 Cumberlands defeated #6 Campbellsville 2-1 (2OT)

The Patriots (10-4-3) held a 20-6 advantage in shots over the Tigers (8-6-1) and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Campbellsville struck first in the 29th minute on goal from Diego Chainho which was assisted by Samuel Londano.

Cumberlands got the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Shuma Sasaki tied the game with Alejandro Gonzalez picking up the assist. In overtime, Tommaso Ogliari gave the Patriots the 2-1 advantage in the 95th minute.
