Firehawks Double Up Phoenix, Win MSC Regular Season

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team defeated Cumberland 2-1 on Thursday, October 27. The Firehawks secured their first MSC regular season crown, and they adorn the #1 seed for the MSC championship.

In the opening half, Miguel Tizapa would net his fifth goal of the season from an assist by Konstantinos Theodorakis. The ratings-scorned Firehawks would hold the 1-nil lead at the break. CU would lead in shots 7-4.

In the second half, both teams would trade goals, but UTS would find the game-winner. Carlos Galan would list the Firehawks up 2-nil before CU could shave the lead in half. The Phoenix would outshoot the Firehawks 14-12 and would lead shots-on-goal 8-6.

Ajay Murray tended the sticks, he knocked down seven of eight shots he faced.

MSC TOURNAMENT

The 2022 MSC Championship is set. On November 1st, seeds 6-11 will face off in the opening round. Here is a list of the matchups:

  • #6 Campbellsville will host #11 Pikeville; the winner travels to #3 Cumberlands.
  • #7 Thomas More will host #10 Freed-Hardeman; the winner travels to #2 Bethel.
  • #8 Georgetown hosts #9 Shawnee State; the winner travels to #1 Tennessee Southern.
  • #4 Lindsey Wilson hosts #5 Cumberland; both get a bye to the quarterfinals.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will await the winner of the Georgetown/Shawnee State opening-round game. The Firehawks quarterfinal match will be played on Nov. 4th or 5th.
