Eagles Soar Past Firehawks

Eagles Soar Past Firehawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern came up short at home against former SSAC foe Faulkner 2-nil on Wednesday, August 31.

Faulkner would jump ahead just 13 minutes into the match. The Eagles would fire a shot just inside the 18-yard box, and keep Ajay Murray would deflect the ball high in the air. The Firehawk would attempt to clear the ball off the line but would run out of real estate. In the 29th minute, Carlos Galan would drive into the box and draw a foul. The awarded penalty kick, by Miguel Tizapa, would be saved by Faulkner's keeper. UTS would outshoot the Eagles 8-2, and Faulkner would lead at the break 1-nil.

The second half was as torrid as the first—both teams combined for a total of 36 fouls and eight yellow cards. UTS continued to try to find the leveler, but Faulkner would put the game out of reach in the 72nd minute. The Eagles would connect on a corner padding their lead to 2-nil. The UTS would have the shot advantage 13-7, but Faulkner would hold shots-on-goal 6-5.

Murray allowed a pair of goals and recorded four saves. He would fall to 2-1 on the season between the sticks.
