Wright Leads All Scorers With 20, Firehawks Set New Program Mark for Consecutive Wins

DALTON, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's basketball team etched their place in program history after spoiling Dalton State's homecoming in a 79-55 drubbing of the Roadrunners on Saturday. UTS surpassed the longest, known, program win streak of 16 games extending their current win streak to 17 in-a-row. Three Firehawks added double figures to the scoring column. Kendall Wright led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds. Adarion Hudson dropped 16 points and four steals. Brady Brown added 12 points and seven boards. Tad Sivley added a 10 rebound effort as well.

UT Southern (21-2, 15-0) shot 43 percent, 12 of 28 from the field in the first half. Hudson paced the Firehawks scoring 11 of his points in the opening half. Dalton State (13-5, 9-5) would try to hang close in the early going, but a pair of big triples from Wright and Koby Isaac propelled UTS to an 11-point lead at the break.

In the final half, the #10 Firehawks would continue to pull away and lead by 18 in the early going of the period. Wright added 13 of his points down the stretch. The good guys would light the nets on fire shooting 53 percent, 17-32 from the field. The Firehawks outrebounded the Roadrunners 33-23.

17-WINS IN-A-ROW

The 2010-11 Martin Methodist RedHawks (34-3) began the season on a 16 game heater before making a deep run into the NAIA Championship. in 2010-11, the squad swept both the TranSouth Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships before falling to Pikeville in the NAIA Semifinals 110-99. The 2023-24 Firehawks look to continue adding to the new mark.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will return home for their final two regular season home matches next week. On Thursday, February 8th, the Firehawks will host Faulkner at the "CAC". The Firehawks and Eagles will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. UTS defeated FALK 81-74 in the "Gump" earlier this season.
