Firehawks Erase a Huge First Half Deficit, but Fall in Overtime to Patriots

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's basketball started out slow but fought back to force the game to overtime. Cumberlands would run off in the overtime period to defeat the Firehawks 97-91 on Saturday.

Kavion Hancock and Brady Brown led all scorers with 25 points each. Hancock and Brown would combine for 8 triples in the contest. Adarion Hudson added 20 points in the game. 

Both teams would scrap back and forth in the early going. The game would be tied for at 23 with just over eight minutes before the break. UC would outscore the Firehawks 25-11 to lead 48-34 at the half.

UTS would chip away at the Pat's lead and drawback even just before the under-12 media timeout. UC for the next four minutes would go on a 13-2 run to lead 67-56 with over nine minutes left. UTS would retake the lead with under four minutes left, but UC would find themselves poised to survive for the win with less than 10 seconds left. However, Hudson would slash through the paint to send the game to overtime.

UC would outscore the Firehawks 13-7 in the extra five minutes.

UTS would shoot 15 of 59 for 25% from the field. There would be four lead changes and seven ties.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the final road trip of the regular season, traveling to Henderson, Tenn. to play the Lions of Freed-Hardeman on Thursday, February 16th. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
