Mid-South Conference Announces 2021-22 Men’s Basketball Awards

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Mid-South Conference 2021-22 Men's Basketball were announced on Friday.

Thomas More's (Ky.) Ryan Batte was named the MSC Player of the Year while Cumberland's (Tenn.) TJ Stargell is the Randy Vernon Defensive Player of the Year. Freed-Hardeman's Geraldo Lane earned MSC Freshman of the Year honors.

Thomas More's Justin Ray was voted the MSC Coach of the Year by his peers while Spencer Berlekamp was named the MSC Assistant Coach of the Year

Batte led the conference averaging 21.1 points per game (22.3 in conference play). He scored 20-plus points in 18 games this season with a high of 36. Batte shot 54.6 percent from the field which ranked ninth in the conference. He averaged 6.9 rebounds a game which ranked sixth in the MSC.

Stargell recorded 34 steals this season which ranked second on the Phoenix. He averaged 3.8 rebounds per game and scored 8.4 points per game this season.

In his freshman campaign, Lane averaged 9.8 points per game which ranked second on the Lions. He shot 51.5 percent from the field and led Freed-Hardeman with 5.3 rebounds per game this season.

Ray and Berlekamp led the Saints to a 25-3 overall record and the MSC regular season title with a 19-2 record. Thomas More captured its first MSC regular season title this year. The Saints are currently ranked No. 5 in the NAIA.

Twelve players were named to first and second teams with an additional seven players earning honorable mention honors.
