Firehawks Blaze Past Bulldogs

Pulaski, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks burst open their home opener, winning the contest 71-60 on Thursday night.

UTS took the lead early, and never relinquished control to the Bulldogs. Kavion Hancock started the game hitting three 3-point field goals in the first five minutes. Hancock led the team in scoring, shooting 6-11 from the field and totaling 19 points. It was a 3-point montage for the Firehawks as the team connected on 42% of their long range attempts. The Firehawks pocketed 10 threes, starting the season off red hot from behind the arc.

The Firehawks had four players in double figures, including Hancock, Adarion Hudson, Tad Sively, and Brady Brown. Mohamed ElGohary led the team in rebounds collecting eight defensive boards along with an offensive rebound which resulted in an easy stick back. The bench contributed solid minutes, collecting 13 points and amping up the defensive intensity.

"Really proud that the guys played so hard," commented had Coach Dugan Lyne. "We did a lot of really good things. I thought that Fisk did a really good job of weathering our storm and continuing to chip away. I am looking forward to the journey with these guys throughout the rest of the season."
