Firehawks Finish Fourth at ACUI National Championship
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - The University of Tennessee Southern clay target squad competed in the ACUI National Championship last week. The Firehawks set some new program marks in a fourth-place finish. The Firehawks' 2890 was the highest score shot by the team in the last three years (2022 National Champion team – 2832, 2023 third place – 2835).
The Firehawks began the week shooting Doubles Skeet and American Skeet on Tuesday. In Doubles Skeet, Nathan Brandmeyer earned the top marks for the Firehawks shattering 96/100 targets. Seth Ratliff and Eden Samson shot a pair of 99/100s in American Skeet.
On Wednesday, UT Southern competed in American Trap and Doubles Trap. Chase Kelly and Caleb Clayton each turned in a perfect score. John Crutcher, Ian Hirsch, and Zachary Rippeto followed with 99/100 performances. In Doubles Trap, Brandmeyer, Wesley Beaver, and Clayton each led the way with 97/100 scores.
On Thursday, The Firehawks shot the Sporting Clays event. Brandmeyer posted the high marks for the Firehawks shooting a 98/100. UTS shot their last event, Super Sporting, on Friday. Ratliff missed perfection once again on the week with a 99/100. UTS Margaret Simmons Invite on Friday and Saturday. The Firehawks battled some tough NCAA and NAIA programs and had some great performances over the weekend.
