Bio

Mitch Hill enters his sixth season as head coach in 2024. Hill becomes the seventh head coach in the modern era of the program and replaces interim head coach Blake Beavers, who filled the role for the majority of the 2018 season.

Hill came to Tennessee Southern after a five-year stint as head coach at NCAA Division I school Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama.

During his tenure at Alabama A&M, Hill led the Bulldogs to an impressive turnaround in his first few seasons. After the program had won 16 games the two previous seasons combined, the Bulldogs won 47 games in Hill’s first two seasons – highlighted by a program-best 26-win campaign in 2015.

In 2015, Hill was selected as the SWAC Conference Coach of the Year.

During his tenure with the Bulldogs, Hill also led A&M to its first conference tournament win in Division I history. He also produced 13 SWAC All-Conference performers and saw continued increase in the school’s Academic Progress Report (APR) score.

Prior to his run as head coach at Alabama A&M, Hill spent the previous six years at various NCAA Division I and junior college positions as assistant coach.

Hill began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of North Alabama, his alma mater, under Head Coach Mike Keehn for three seasons. Hill helped guide three Academic All-Americans, three players who went on to sign professional contracts and 12 All-Conference players.

Coach Hill continued his coaching career as an assistant coach at Motlow State Community College (Tenn.) and Bevill State Community College (Ala.).

He spent one year at Bevill State Community College as the pitching coach, recruiting coordinator, and infield coach before the athletic program was cut from the college. During that year he had a top three recruiting class in the state of Alabama. He also had three Academic All-Americans and two players who signed letters of intent to continue playing college baseball at the four-year level.

After Bevill, he spent one year at Motlow State Community College in Lynchburg, Tennessee, as the assistant baseball coach under Head Coach Dan McShea. Coach Hill had one JUCO All-American and 16 players go on to sign letters of intent at the four-year level.

Coach Hill lettered and pitched for the UNA Lions from 2002-07 where he earned his bachelor's in physical education and minor in business administration. He also earned his master's in health promotion and human performance.

Coach Hill is a native of Florence, AL, and is married to Erin Lynn Hill. They have three sons - Griffin, Bennett and Jamie. Erin is also a native of Florence and a registered nurse at Huntsville Hospital.
