Firehawks Honor Seniors with a Upset Win over No. 13 Loyola

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team scored five runs in the first inning to defeat #13 Loyola 6-5 on senior day.

UT Southern batted around and all nine batting players in the lineup earned a hit in the first inning. Rhett Birdsong singled through the left side scoring Landon Rogers. Kevin McCarthy singled to third driving in Noah Junker. Coleman Siniard singled to short scoring R. Birdsong. Blake Birdsong single to left field scoring Grayson Willis. Chandler Jordan Singled up the middle driving in Trent Rhinehart. UTS led 5-0 after one inning.

Loyola would score one run in the second. Siniard would hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Junker. The Firehawks led 6-1 after two innings.

The Wolfpack got three runs back via a homerun in the fifth and would score one run in the seventh via a walk.

Griffin Sahli got the start and worked 4.2 innings. Sahli allowed four earned runs on four hits while striking out six. Ridge Raper earned the win tossing 1.1 innings allowing one unearned run. Cody Edwards recorded one out via a strikeout. Gerry Wayne Davis worked one inning allowing two hits. Cody Womble tossed one inning striking out one LU hitter. B. Birdsong got the final two outs on a double play to earn the save.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will conclude the regular season home schedule with a matchup with Alabama-Huntsville on Tuesday, April 23rd. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
