Firehawks Fall to Blue Raiders on Walk-off

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team fell in the bottom of the ninth to Lindsey Wilson 12-11 on Tuesday.

Chandler Jordan hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Josh Porter. UTS led 1-0 after two.

Lindsey Wilson scored six runs in the third to take the lead 6-1 after three.

In the fifth, the Firehawks scored three runs. Kevin McCarthy doubled to center scoring Cannon Raby. Rhett Birdsong scored on a wild pitch. Trent Rheinhart doubled to left scoring McCarthy. UTS trailed 6-4 after five innings.

In the seventh, UTS scored four runs. Rhinehart singled to center scoring McCarthy. Blake Birdsong doubled to right scoring Rhinehart. Devin Buckhalter hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Grayson Willis. Cole Barnett reached on an error that allowed B. Birdsong to score. In the bottom half, LWC got a run back to trail 8-7.

In the eighth, Rhinehart reached on an error that allowed Noah Junker to score. Coleman Siniard singled through the left side scoring R. Birdsong. The Blue Raiders scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 10 each.

In the ninth, Barnett scored on a wild pitch to lift the Firehawks into the lead. LWC would take advantage of a Firehawk error and a timely single to win 12-11.

Caiden Rodgers got the start and tossed two innings Rodgers allowed three earned runs on two hits. Cody Womble tossed 1.1 innings allowing two earned runs. Ridge Raper worked 1.2 innings allowing three hits. Griffin Sahli tossed one inning striking out two. Josh Simmons tossed 1.1 innings allowing four earned runs. B. Birdsong recorded two outs in the ninth allowing two unearned runs.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to Bobby Walker Field for the final home series of the season against Loyola beginning on Friday, April 19th. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
