Firehawks Rout Knights in Series Finale

COCHRAN, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team out slugged Middle Georgia State to claim game three 11-4 on Saturday.

UT Southern took the early lead scoring two runs in the second and one in the third. Blake Birdsong grounded out to second scoring Kevin McCarthy. Chandler Jordan singled to right field scoring Josh Porter. UTS led 2-0 after two innings.

In the third, Porter doubled down the left field line scoring Cole Barnett. UTS led 3-0 after three.

In the fourth, Landon Rogers doubled to left scoring Jordan and Kyle Pace. The Knights answered by scoring three runs in the bottom half to trail 7-3.

Middle Georgia State added one more run in the fifth to trail 7-4.

Jordan singled to right scoring McCarthy. Devin Buckhalter doubled down the left field line scoring Jordan and Birdsong. UTS led 10-4 after seven complete innings.

In the eighth, Porter doubled scoring McCarthy. UTS led 11-4 after eight innings.

Ridge Raper got the start. Raper tossed 3.2 innings allowing one earned run. Griffin Sahli earned the win tossing one inning of relief. Sahli allowed one earned run. Tray Lacy earned the save working 4.1 innings allowing three hits.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to Bobby Walker Field on Tuesday, hosting Talladega. The Firehawks and Tornadoes met earlier in the season in Talladega, Ala. TC took that game 8-1. The First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
