Knights Outlast Firehawks in Twin Bill

COCHRAN, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team came up short in the first pair of games with Middle Georgia State on Friday. MGSC took the seven-inning game 17-2 and claimed game two in eight innings 15-5. The squads will meet again tomorrow for the final game of the series.

GAME ONE

Middle Georgia State scored six runs in the first inning to take the early lead.

UT Southern added a a pair in second. Grayson Willis singled to center scoring Josh Porter. Landon Rogers doubled to left scoring Willis. UTS trailed 6-2 heading to the bottom of the second.

The Knights added one run in the second, two runs in both the third and fourth, and six runs in the fifth.

Cody Edwards got the start tossing two innings allowing seven earned runs. Preston Patterson pitched a pair allowing four earned runs. Zach Neill worked 0.2 innings allowing four earned runs. Kyle Pace tossed 1.1 innings allowing one hit.

GAME TWO

Middle Georgia State scattered seven runs in the first two innings to lead 7-0.

UT Southern answered with five runs in the fifth. Blake Birdsong doubled to right center scoring Devin Buckhalter and Noah Junker. Trent Rhinehart singled to left center Scoring Birdsong. Chandler Jordan doubled to left center scoring Rhinehart and Kevin McCarthy. UTS trailed 7-5 heading to the bottom of the fifth.

MGSC added one run in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh, and two in the eighth to take the game 15-5.

Caiden Rodgers got the start working 2.2 innings allowing seven runs. Weston Horton tossed 2.2 innings allowing three earned runs. Gerry Wayne Davis worked 0.2 innings allowing three earned runs. Logan Parrott tossed 1.1 innings allowing one earned run. Josh Simmons gave up one walk.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the series with the Knights tomorrow. The First pitch is scheduled for noon.
