Lacy Tosses a One-Hitter, UT Southern Splits Opening Pair with No. 10 Faulkner

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team split a twin bill with #10 Faulkner at Bobby Walker Field on Saturday. The Eagles rode the coattails of a four run first inning to hold off a late Firehawk rally in game ones 6-4 result. In game two, UT Southern run ruled the Eagles 10-0.

GAME ONE

The Eagles took advantage of an early error and a few free passes to lead 4-0 after one.

UT Southern scored one run in the second. Blake Birdsong singled up the middle scoring Grayson Willis. Faulkner led 4-1 after two innings.

In the fourth, Birdsong homered to right field. UTS trailed 4-2 after four.

Faulkner would add one run in both the sixth and seventh to lead 6-2. UT Southern would score a pair in the seventh when Kevin McCarthy doubled down the right field line scoring Landon Rogers and Noah Junker.

Birdsong took the loss. Birdsong allowed two earned runs on four walks. Josh Simmons tossed six innings recording five strikeouts. Simmons allowed two earned runs on two hits. Griffin Sahli tossed 0.2 innings walking one Eagle batter.

GAME TWO

UT Southern put up a three-spot in the opening inning. Birdsong tripled down the right field line scoring Junker and Rogers. Birdsong later scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, the Firehawks scored five runs. Junker's single got the party started scoring Rogers. Rhett Birdsong singled up the middle, scoring Gabe Sibert and Junker. Chandler Jordan doubled to center scoring Willis and B. Birdsong. UTS led 8-0 after five.

In the seventh, Devin Buckhalter walked to push Willis across the plate. McCarthy would score on a Faulkner wild pitch to end the game early.

Tray Lacy tossed a career best seven inning gem. Lacy allowed one hit and two walks while fanning 10 Eagle hitters.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the series with #10 Faulkner tomorrow at Bobby Walker Field. The first pitch between the Eagles and Firehawks is scheduled for 1 p.m.
