Firehawks Drop Weekday Game to Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team came up short in an 8-1 loss to Talladega on Tuesday. The game was scheduled originally for March 7th, but was postponed due to unfavorable weather.

Talladega (13-10) took the early lead scoring a pair in the first inning.

UT Southern (7-15) scored their loner run in the fourth. Blake Birdsong drew a free pass that forced in Rhett Birdsong. UTS trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth. TC would score six runs over the next four innings to seal the win.

Ridge Raper got the start and tossed four innings. Raper allowed three earned runs on eight hits. Caiden Rodgers gave up two earned runs. Josh Simmons threw three innings allowing a pair of earned runs and recorded three strikeouts. Weston Horton tossed the ninth not allowing a hit and fanning a pair of TC hitters.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will return to Bobby Walker Field hosting Faulkner for a weekend three game series. The SSAC matchup will begin on Friday, March 15th. The first pitch is scheduled for six p.m.
