Firehawks Last Inning Explosions Secure Series Sweep of Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team completed the three-game series sweep over Stillman with a pair of wins today. UT Southern won game two 12-2 and claimed game three in extra innings 11-5.

GAME TWO

UT Southern (6-14, 3-5) trailed early as Stillman (8-10, 3-8) got on the board scoring a run in the opening inning. The Firehawks would level the game in the fourth. Rhett Bridsong singled to left driving in Noah Junker. The Tigers would answer back in the bottom of the fourth. SC led 2-1 after four.

In the sixth, the Firehawks added two runs retaking the lead 3-2. Gabe Sibert scored on an error by the pitcher. Coleman Siniard singled to left scoring McCarthy.

In the final inning, the Firehawks blasted out nine runs to rout the Tigers. Landon Rogers tripled to left center scoring Devin Buckhalter. Junker singled to left scoring Rogers. McCarthy singled to center scoring Junker. Blake Birdsong singled to second scoring Sibert. Siniard hit a sacrifice fly to left driving in McCarthy. R. Birdsong scored on a passed ball. Buckhalter homered to center scoring Josh Porter and B. Birdsong.

B. Birdsong tossed the complete game allowing one earned run on two hits.

GAME THREE

Sibert grounded out to short scoring Rogers. UTS led 1-0 after one.

B. Birdsong doubled down the right field line scoring rogers in the third. Stillman (8-10, 3-8) scored a run in the third to trail 2-1 after three complete innings.

The Tigers would take the lead in the fourth adding two runs.

Sibert grounded out to short scoring Rogers. UTS tied the game at three after five.

Chandler Jordan grounded out to short scoring Grayson Willis. The Firehawks led 4-3 after six.

In the eighth, Jordan hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring R. Birdsong. SC added a run in the bottom half to trail 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, Stillman would homer to send the game to extra frames deadlocked at five.

Just as in the first game of the day, UTS ignited for six runs in the 10th.  Ty Garrett singled to right center scoring Willis. Buckhalter reached on a SC error allowing McCarthy to score. Buckhalter later scored on a passed ball. Sibert singled to ledt scoring Junker and Rogers. R. Birdsong singled to center scoring Sibert.

Logan Parrot got the start and tossed 7.1 innings. He allowed one earned run on five hits. Griffin Sahli worked 0.2 innings allowing one earned run. Gerry Wayne Davis took the win, tossing two scorless innings giving up one hit.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will travel to Talladega on Tuesday to battle the Tornaodes. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
