No. 18 Rams Slide by Firehawks

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team opened up Southern States Athletic Conference play on the road against #18 Mobile on Friday. The Rams swept the Firehawks 8-6 in game one and 10-5 in game two.

GAME ONE

UT Southern (3-9, 0-1) took the lead early and led 4-0 in the third. Coleman Siniard's ground out drove in Landon Rogers in the first. UTS led 1-0.

Devin Buckhalter singled to right scoring Ty Garrett. Later in the second, Rogers hit a sacrifice fly driving in Gabe Sibert. UTS led 3-0 after two.

In the third, the Firehawks pushed across one more run. Garrett singled to left scoring Cole Barnett. Mobile (2-6, 1-0) scored six in the third to jump out in front 6-4 after three.

The Firehawks would get one back in the fourth. Rhett Birdsong hit a sacrifice fly scoring Rogers. Mobile led 6-5 after four.

Blake Birdsong drew a free pass in the sixth that scored Rogers. UTS tied the game at six. In the bottom of the inning, Mobile would score two more to win 8-6.

Tray Lacy got the start. Lacy tossed three innings allowing six earned runs. Josh Simmons (1-1) took the loss in a relief effort. Simmons hurled three innings allowing two earned runs.

GAME TWO

Mobile (3-6, 2-0) got out to the early lead. They scored one in the first and second.

In the fifth, Blake Birdsong reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Kevin McCarthy to score. UTS trailed 2-1 after five.

In the seventh, Blake Birdsong would double to left driving in Grayson Willis. Birdsong would later score on a fielder's choice by Buckhalter. Noah Junker singled to left driving in Buckhalter. UTS took the lead 4-2.

In the eighth, Mobile would retake the lead scoring eight runs.

Junker would single in the ninth allowing Buckhalter to score.

Logan Parrott would get the start. Parrott tossed 5.2 innings allowing two earned runs and fanning six Ram batters. Zach Chaney would close out the sixth. Weston Horton threw one inning allowing two earned runs. Blake Birdsong (0-1) tossed the eighth inning giving up two earned runs.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will conclude the weekend conference trip in Mobile tomorrow playing a game three with the #18 Rams. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
