Firehawks Continue Strong Showing at Southeast Rumble, UT Southern Falls in Extras to No. 23 Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team began day two of the Southeast Rumble on Saturday with an 8-7 extra innings loss to host #23 Reinhardt. UT Southern was slated to face Baker in the nightcap, but torrential rain would eventually cancel the matchup.

UT Southern (2-4) fell behind early with the Eagles scoring three in the first.

The Firehawks would close the gap in the third when Cole Barnett would ground out to short to drive in Landon Rogers. RU would add another run in the third as well to lead 4-1.

In the fifth, Kevin McCarthy continued to stay hot at the dish, doubling to right driving in Noah Junker. A few batters later, Ty Garrett singled to center scoring McCarthy. UTS trailed after five 4-3.

Reihnardt added one more run in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-3.

In the eighth, the Firehawks would knot up the game. Barnett doubled to center driving in Rogers and Chandler Jordan. Heading to the ninth the score would be tied at five.

In the ninth, UTS would push across a pair of runs. Rogers drew a free pass pushing Cannon Raby across the plate. Junker would reach on a fielder's choice allowing Garrett to score. The Firehawks led 7-5 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

RU would answer back to send the game to extra frames. The eagles would compile four hits and squeak out two runs.

In the 10th, the home squad would hit a walk-off homerun to steal the win.

Logan Parrott got the start. Parrott fanned four Eagle hitters and allowed four earned runs in four innings of work. Blake Birdsong tossed a pair of innings allowing one unearned run. Griffin Sahli threw 1.1 innings allowing one hit. Gerry Wayne Davis tossed 1.2 innings allowing three earned run and six hits. Davis suffered his second loss of the year.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will return home hosting Grace College for a four-game series. The Firehawks and Lancers will begin at 1 pm on Friday for a twin bill at Bobby Walker Field.
