Firehawks Fall in Final Pair Against Ottawa

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team dropped the final pair of the weekend series with Ottawa on Saturday. The Braves slipped by in the first game of the doubleheader 3-2 and took the final game 14-2.

GAME THREE

Ottawa (2-1) took the early lead pushing across a run in the first inning. UT Southern (1-2) scored a run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Devin Buckhalter singled to left scoring Kevin McCarthy.

In the fifth, Ottawa would add two runs to lead 3-1. In the bottom of the inning, Landon Rogers would sneek across the plate via a wild pitch.

Ridge Raper got the start. Raper fanned five Braves batters and allowed two earned runs in five innings of work. Weston Horton tossed two scoreless innings in relief allowing one hit.

GAME FOUR

Ottawa (3-1) scored in each inning in the contest holding a 14-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.

UT Southern (1-3) would add two runs in their last at bats. Noah Junker singled to right driving in Buckhalter. McCarthy singled up the middle scoring Rogers.  

Caiden Rodgers got the start in game two. Rodgers tossed two innings allowing five earned runs and recording two strikeouts. Cody Edwards, Griffin Sahli, Josh Simmons, Gerry Wayne Davis, and Blake Birdsong each tossed one inning in relief by committee.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will host Indiana University Purdue University Columbus on Friday, February 9th, at Bobby Walker Field. The Firehawks and Crimson Pride will begin game one at noon with game two to follow.
