Bears Crawl Past Firehawks in MSC Opening Round Game One

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team opened MSC Championship play by hosting Pikeville at Bobby Walker Field on Saturday. Pikeville took game one 13-5. UTS finds itself in a must-win situation tomorrow at the "Bob". Game two will begin tomorrow at noon with game three, if needed, to follow.

GAME ONE

UPIKE would get on the board first scoring three runs in the first. UTS would answer with a three-spot of their own. Kevin McCarthy would single through the right side scoring Brantley Holden. Coleman Siniard would tattoo the scoreboard in left to tie the game at three.

UPIKE would sprinkle nine runs over the next six innings to lead 12-3 heading to the UTS seventh. McCarthy would drive in two more with a double scoring Landon Rogers and Janzen Powell. UTS would trail 12-5 after seven.

Logan Parrott would suffer his second loss of the year. Parrott would hurl two innings allowing five runs on six hits. Griffin Sahli would toss 4.1 innings allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. Joe Hicks would work a third of an inning. Hicks would allow three walks and strike out one. Cody Edwards would finish the game tossing 2.1 innings. Edwards would allow one earned run on one hit and fan four Bear batters.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will compete in an important game two at Bobby Walker Field tomorrow at noon. UTS must win both game two and game three to advance next week to Bowling Green, Ky.
