Firehawks Split Final Pair with Tigers

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team split the final pair of games with Campbellsville concluding today. CU took the weather delayed game 4-3, but the Firehawks would claim the final game 9-8.

GAME TWO

CU would take the early lead scoring a pair in the second.

Janzen Powell singled to left center in the fifth scoring Blake Birdsong. Later in the inning, Michael Wurtz would single to left driving in Powell and allowing Landon Rogers to score on the play. Both teams would be tied at three after five innings.

Nathan Curtis would toss six innings in the no-decision. Curtis would allow three earned runs on four hits. Weston Horton would suffer the loss tossing the final two frames. Horton would allow one unearned run on one hit.

GAME THREE

UTS would take the early in the first. Wurtz would single to right center friving in Noah Junker and Brantley Holden. UTS would lead 2-0 after one.

In the fourth, Coleman SIniard would double to left center driving in Kevin McCarthy and Wurtz. Later in the inning, Ty Garrett would single to left scoring Devin Buckhalter. Janzen Powell would sacrifice bunt to score Birdsong. UTS would lead 6-1 after four innings.

In the seventh, Junker would drive in Holden. UTS would lead 7-3 after seven innings.

In the ninth, Powell would double to right center scoring Nick Davis. Holden would follow up with a double of his own and drive in Powell. UTS would hold a 9-8 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Logan Parrott would toss 5.1 innings in the no-decision. Parrott would allow three runs on two hits. Cody Womble would allow four earned runs on a pair of hits working 2.1 innings. Josh Simmons would allow one earned run on one hit. Gerry Wayne Davis would record his third win of the year. Davis would toss 1.1 innings allowing one hit.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to Bobby Walker Field to host Oakwood on Tuesday, April 18th. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
