Firehawks Fall Short in Comeback Against Tigers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team tried to sweep the season series with Stillman, but the Tigers held on to win 13-12 on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Janzen Powell singled to left in the second scoring Blake Birdsong. UTS led 1-0 after two.

In the third, Michael Wurtz  scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Birdsong would drive in Cannon Raby. UTS led 3-2 after three innings.

Stillman would add six runs in the fourth to take the lead by the score of 8-3.

The Tigers would add thee more in the fifth to control the Firehawks by the count of 11-3.

The Firehawks would detonate in the sixth scoring eight runs to close the gap. Landon Rogers would drive in Josh Porter. Noah Junker would triple scoring Powell. Wurtz would reach on a SC error allowing Junker to score. Birdsong would single to drive in Raby and Wurtz. Garrett would score later in the inning via a wild pitch. UTS would trail 12-11.

SC would plate a run in the sixth to lead 13-11.

UTS would try to tie the game in the eighth but could only muster up one run. Powell would single to third driving in Garrett.

Weston Horton would toss three innings in the no-decision. Horton would allow a pair of earned runs on five hits and retiring five Tiger bats via strikeouts. Devin Buckhalter would take the loss. Buckhalter would allow 10 runs on four hits in two innings of work. Cody Edwards would fire the final three innings. Edwards would allow one run on one hit.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Campbellsville, Ky. for a weekend series with Campbellsville. The first game is slated for Friday, April 14th. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
