Firehawks Double up Bearcats

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team defeated Brescia in a mid-week contest winning 12-6 on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kevin McCarthy would reach on a Bearcat error allowing Landon Rogers to score. UTS would trail 2-1 after one.

Brantley Holden would be hit by a pitch forcing in Devin Buckhalter in the second. Ty Garrett and Janzen Powell would score on a throwing error. McCarthy would drive in Holden via a Sacrifice fly. UTS would lead 5-2 after two.

Buckhalter would score on a passed ball in the third to increase the Firehawk lead. UTS would hold the advantage 6-5 after three.

Blake Birdsong would draw a free pass pushing Wurtz across the plate in the fourth padding the lead to 7-5.

In the sixth, Coleman Siniard would double-scoring McCarthy. Buckhalter would ground out to short allowing Cannon Raby to come in. UTS held the lead 9-6 after six.

In the seventh, Wurtz would reach on an error allowing Holden to score. UTS would lead 10-6 heading to the eighth.

Wurtz would triple in the ninth driving in Holden. Later in the inning, Wurtz would score on a wild pitch.

Joe Hicks would get the start. Hicks would toss one inning allowing two earned runs. Cody Edwards would toss the next three frames. He would allow three earned runs on three hits and retiring three Brescia batters on strikes. Griffin Sahli would hurl the next two innings. Sahli would allow one earned run. Weston Horton would pick up the save tossing the final three innings. Horton would strike out four and allow only a pair of hits.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will hit the road traveling to McKenzie, Tenn. taking on Bethel on Friday, March 31st. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
