Firehawk Bats Explode in Double Header Rout of Blue Raiders

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team bounced by from the opening series game loss on Saturday with an offensive explosion taking the series with a 17-10 win in game two and a 17-12 win in game three.

With the first win on the day, UTS baseball eclipsed the 20-win mark for the first time since 2019. In 2019 the RedHawks posted a 28-25 record.

GAME TWO

Josh Porter got the Firehawks on the board with a three RBI double in the first scoring Cannon Raby, Landon Rogers, and Noah Junker. UTS would trail 4-3 after one.

Junker singled in the second scoring Ty Garrett. Later in the inning, Rogers would single scoring Brantley Holden. Coleman Siniard would join the hit parade plating both Junker and Rogers. UTS would take the lead after two 7-5.

Siniard would draw a free pass pushing Janzen Powell across the plate in the third. Josh Porter would reach on a walk scoring Rogers. UTS would jump back in front 9-8 after three.

Junker would put a ball in play allowing Powell to score in the fourth. The Firehawks would lead 10-9.

Kevin McCarthy would single in the fifth scoring Siniard. Later in the inning, Garrett would single driving in Powell. UTS would lead 12-9 after five.

Michael Wurtz would double in Landon Rogers in the sixth. A few batters later, Wurtz would score on a wild pitch. Holden's single to left would plate Raby and Porter. Later in the inning, Powell would reach the plate on a wild pitch. UTS would lead 17-10 after six complete innings.

Griffin Sahli would get the start. Sahli would toss two innings allowing seven earned runs on five hits. Gerry Wayne Davis would pick up the win tossing three innings and allowing a pair of earned runs. Josh Simmons would toss the final two innings allowing only one hit and striking out four.

GAME THREE

Wurtz would start the party in game three with a first inning two-run double scoring Rogers and Holden. Porter would reach on a error allowing Wurtz to score. UTS led 3-0 after one.

In the third, Rogers would score on an error by LWC extending the lead to 4-0.

Birdsong would launch a solo homer in the fourth. Wurtz would single scoring Holden. UTS would pad the lead to 6-1.

Siniard would single in McCarthey in the fifth. Holden would single in Garrett. Rogers would double in holden and Raby. Wurtz would single in Rogers. UTS would lead 11-4 after five.

Birdsong would single to left scoring Garrett in the sixth. He would later score on a wild pitch. UTS held the advantage 13-7 after six.

McCarthy would double in Wurtz in the seventh. Birdsong would hit a two-run bomb scoring McCarthy.

Wurtz would hit a sacrifice fly scoring Powell in the eighth.

 

Logan Parrott would get the win tossing five innings allowing three earned runs ad recording four strikeouts. Devin Buckhaulter would toss 0.2 innings allowing three earned runs on two hits. Cody Womble would hurl 1.2 innings allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Simmons would toss the final 1.2 innings not allowing a hit.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will begin a week-long road trip traveling to Owensboro, Ky. taking on Brescia on Tuesday, March 28. Game time has yet to be determined.
