Firehawks Split Day Two With #15 Patriots

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team split the final pair of games in the weekend series with Cumberlands at Bobby Walker Field on Saturday. UC took game two 19-4, but the Firehawks would return the favor in an 8-2 win in the final game.

GAME TWO

The Firehawks fell behind early after the Pats would plate a pair in the first and six in the second. Janzen Powell would smash a grand slam in the second scoring Devin Buckhalter, Ty Garrett, and Josh Porter.

UC would continue to add runs in the seven-inning affair to take the game 19-4.

Tray Lacy would take the loss on an abbreviated start. Lacy would allow three earned runs on five hits in an inning of work. Gerry Wayne Davis would toss a pair of innings allowing six earned runs on seven hits and striking out four. Weston Horton would toss an inning allowing three earned runs on four hits. Blake Birdsong would hurl the final three innings allowing a single earned run on four hits.

GAME THREE

The Firehawks were able to manufacture a run in the first to get in front of the Pats. Michael Wurtz would single in Landon Rogers to elevate the Firehawks to a 1-0 lead.

Birdsong would add a run in the second on a solo shot to center field.

In the fourth, Rogers would triple driving in Nick Davis and G.W. Davis. In the next at-bat, Noah Junker would drive a long ball out of the park to score Rogers. After four UTS would lead 6-0.

In the sixth, Birdsong would single to right scoring Kevin McCarthy.

In the seventh, Junker would reach on a UC error, allowing Rogers to score. After seven innings, UTS would lead 8-1.

Logan Parrott would be stellar in his quality start. Parrott would hurl eight innings only giving up two unearned runs. He would hold the Pats in check at the dish not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. Parrott would fan 10 UC batters, and stay unbeaten on the year at 3-0. Cody Womble would toss the ninth in relief striking out two batters.

The Firehawks will host the Ambassadors of Oakwood at Bobby Walker Field on Wednesday, March 15th beginning at 2 pm.
