Firehawks Kennel Bulldogs in MSC Opening Series

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team made it three in a row on Friday defeating Wilberforce 10-1 at waterlogged Bobby Walker Field. The final nine-inning game would be canceled due to the threat of rain in the forecast. The Firehawks would outscore the Bulldogs 28-4 in the conference games.

GAME TWO

Devan Buckhalter got UTS on the board first in the second inning. He would score on a dropped third strike to Zak Hayes.

Michael Wurtz would pick up an RBI driving in Brantley Holden in the third. UTS would lead 2-0 after three.

Buckhalter would come home via a Grayson Willis sacrifice fly in the fourth. Landon Rogers' walk would force in Kevin McCarthy. Wurtz would plate Cannon Raby with a sharply hit ball in the infield. Ty Garrett's fielders choice would bring in Holden. UTS would extend the lead to 6-0 after four.

Hayes' sacrifice fly would drive in Buckhalter in the fifth.

A pair of doubles would plate three runs in the sixth. McCarthy would plate Garrett and Wurtz. Hayes would plate McCarthy.

Tray Lacy would toss the complete game picking up the win. Lacy would take a one-hitter into the last inning, but Wilberforce would drive in a run on a single in the seventh. Lacy allowed one earned run and struck out 10.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will host #6 Faulkner at Bobby Walker field on Tuesday, February 28. In an earlier matchup, UTS fell to the #6 Eagles in Montgomery, Ala. 8-5. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
