Firehawks Muzzle Bulldogs in Mid-South Opener

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team logged its second run-rule win on the week with an 18-3 drumming of Wilberforce on Thursday. Earlier in the week the Firehawks scored 15 unanswered runs to dismiss Johnson 15-3.

BATS ON FIRE

UTS would jump out in front in the first. Michael Wurtz would drive in Landon Rogers, and Kevin McCarthy would hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Noah Junker. UTS would head to the second ahead 2-0.

In the third, Coleman Siniard would homer to left, and Zak Hayes would drive in Blake Birdsong. The Firehawks would exit the inning out in front 4-1.

UTS would have a big fourth inning. Rogers would score on a wild pitch. Wurtz would drive in Junker. Ty Garrett would drive in Siniard and Wurtz. The Firehawks would be in control ahead 8-1.

The Firehawks would put a crooked number on the board in the sixth scoring 10 runs. Siniard would score on an error, and Garrett would cross the plate via a free pass to Rogers. Junker would send Cannon Raby home via a free pass. Wurtz would double down the left field line scoring Grayson Willis and Rogers. McCarthy's ground out would allow Junker to come home. Siniard would take a three-bagger to plate Wurtz. Birdsong would send one over the wall scoring Siniard, and Garrett would smash a round-tripper in the sixth as well.

Nathan Curtis would toss 5.1 innings logging his fourth win on the early season. Curtis would allow three earned runs and fan 10. Gerry Wayne Davis would finish the game out allowing one hit in 1.2 innings.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will try to complete the series tomorrow at Bobby Walker field against Wilberforce. Weather permitting, The first pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
