Firehawks Dethrone Royals in Run Rule Spectacular

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team got back in the win column in a come-from-behind 15-3 drumming of Johnson University at Bobby Walker Field on Tuesday. UTS trailed 3-0 after one but ignited the bats to plate 15 runs in the final five innings to secure the early ending win.

SCORING RECAP

Landon Rogers would laser a double to center that would score Gerry Wayne Davis in the third. A few batters later, Michael Wurtz singled to the shallow left field scoring Rogers. Moments later, Noah Junker would score on a successful steal attempt by Wurtz. UTS would pull back even with JU 3-3 after three.

In the fifth, Wurtz would single to right scoring Junker hoisting the Firehawks on top 4-3.

UTS would piece together a huge inning in the sixth. Ty Garrett singled to center scoring Blake Birdsong. Rogers would drive in Kevin McCarthy and Garrett. Junker would single to left plating Davis. Wurtz would double scoring Junker and Rogers. The Firehawks would begin to pull away 10-3.

In the seventh, Rogers doubled down the third base line scoring McCarthy and Garrett. Wurtz would end the game with a long fly ball that cleared the center field fence scoring Junker and Rogers.

Joe Hicks would get the start. He would allow a pair of earned runs on one hit in one inning of work. Griffin Sahli would put the Royals in the stockade only allowing three hits and fanning four tossing four innings. Weston Horton would strike the side out in the sixth, and Cody Womble would toss a scoreless seventh.

The Firehawks will begin Mid-South Conference play by hosting Wilberforce University on Thursday, February 23rd. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
