Patriots Outlast Firehawks

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team fell short to keep their season alive with an 8-5 loss to Cumberlands today in game two. UC never trailed in the game, but the Firehawks battled back to bring the game all-square two times. The Patriots retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh and held UTS in check.

The Firehawks cut into the Patriots' lead in the third on a couple of RBI hits by Collin Huntley and Derrick Junker to only trail 3-2. In the fourth, Janzen Powell hit a long ball to left field to equalize the game at three. Trailing 5-3, once again the Firehawks knotted up the score with a lead-off homer by Camden Angell and an RBI single by Lance Pope. Logan Parrott worked 6.2 innings allowing four earned runs and a pair of hits. He racked up five K's and walked five. Drew Bailey finished the game allowing one earned run and two hits. Parrott took the loss falling to 2-5. The Firehawks bats were alive today outhitting the home team 13-4.

UTS posted a final record of 14-33 on the year, and UC improved to 40-13.
