PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team fell short of a sweep against visiting Brescia tonight in a twin bill. UTS scored early and often in a 20-5 win in game one but stranded the tying and potential game-winning run in scoring position in a 12-11 loss in game two.
GAME ONE
- UTS plated 20 runs on 19 base hits. (Hayden Wright and Collin Huntley each had three; Brantley Holden, Drew Bailey, Lance Pope, Blake Birdsong, and Will Clemons added two each; Cannon Raby, Michael Wurtz, and Derrick Junker had a hit.)
- The Firehawks had five extra-base hits: Bailey (HR), Birdsong (3B), Holden (2B), Wright (2B), and Huntley (2B).
- The Firehawks left nine runners on base and drew seven walks.
- Pope held BU in check only allowing three runs in 5.1 innings. Sam Bowling finished the game allowing two earned runs on a pair of hits. Pope improved to 3-1 on the year fanning five batters.
GAME TWO
- UTS produced 11 runs on 10 hits. Birdsong went three-for-four to pace the Firehawks. Wurtz added a pair of hits. Bowling, Blaine Harris, Pope, Wright, and Nick Davis each recorded a hit.
- Pope and Wurtz each had long balls for UTS
- Birdsong added a triple and a double. Bowling, Wurtz, and Huntley also had a two-bagger.
- The Firehawks left eight on base.
- Cody Womble took the loss moving to 0-2 on the year.
NEXT UP
UTS will host rival Bethel at Bobby Walker Field on Friday, April 15th to begin a three-game series. The first pitch Friday will begin at 6 pm.
