Pulaski, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team opened their series with Thomas More by dropping game one 11-4 and game two 8-6.
GAME ONE
- Michael Wurtz had a pair of base hits, Brantley Holden, Lance Pope, Hayden Wright, Derrick Junker, and Will Clemons combined for UTS' seven hits.
- UTS drew one free pass while striking out eight times.
- The Firehawks left four runners on base.
- Junker led the way with a pair of RBI. Pope launched his team-leading eighth homer.
- Tristan Carson fell to 0-4 on the season. He allowed eight earned runs on eight hits.
- Sam Bowling threw the final three innings. Bowling gave up 2 earned runs on three hits.
GAME TWO
- UTS combined for six runs on nine hits. Holden and Wright had two hits each.
- Nick Smith and Blake Birdsong each homered in game two.
- Nathan Curtis threw seven innings for UTS. He allowed six earned runs on 10 hits. Drew Bailey took the loss falling to 1-2. Bailey allowed two earned runs on three hits.
NEXT UP
UTS will try to take the final game tomorrow with the Saints at Bobby Walker Field. The first pitch is slated for noon.
