Firehawks Split Final Two with No. 11 Cumberlands

Winchester, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team split their final two games of the three-game series with #11 Cumberlands on Sunday. The UTS won 6-4 in game two, and UC squeaked by in game three 8-7.

GAME TWO

  • UTS peppered the field with 11 hits, Hayden Wright led the way with three, Will Clemons and Blake Birdsong both added two, Noah Junker, Brantley Holden, Lance Pope, and Coleman Siniard each had one.
  • Pope and Wright both blasted a two-bagger.
  • Wright produced four RBI.
  • UTS drew two walks while striking out five times.
  • The Firehawks left eight on base.
  • Trey Lacy notched his second win in a row. Lacy pitched six solid innings allowing five hits and two earned runs. He recorded five Ks and gave two free passes.
  • Drew Bailey closed the door in the seventh obtaining his first save of the year. Bailey gave up two hits, one earned run and fanned one.

GAME THREE

  • The UTS bats stayed on fire putting up 11 hits in the rubber game. Michael Wurtz, Pope, Wright, Clemons, and Birdsong led the way with two hits each. Brantley Holden added one.
  • Wurtz and Pope had a double each.
  • Pope scored three, and Holden added two more.
  • The Firehawks reached on three walks and struck out eight times.
  • UTS left eight on base.
  • Logan Parrott pitched five and a third for the Firehawks. He allowed six earned runs on nine hits. He struck out three and issued one walk.
  • Nathan Curtis dropped his second decision of the year pitching three innings. He allowed two earned runs on four UC hits. Curtis struck out a pair and walked a pair.

UTS will return to Bobby Walker Field for a mid-week soiree with #21 Reinhardt. This is a makeup game from February 23rd. The first pitch will be thrown at 3 pm.
