- 1950-86: Coach of Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, and Athletic Director 

- 1964-80: Water Safety and First Aid Chairman, Giles County American Red Cross

- 1968: Charter Member of the TJCAA; Sports Director, New TJCAA

- 1968- 85: Board Member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

- 1968-85: Director, Region 7, NJCAA

- 1968-86: Chairman, Medical Aspects of Sports for NJCAA

- 1968-86: Chairman, Cross Country Committee, NJCAA

- 1970-71: Coached only Undefeated intercollegiate athletic team ever at Martin (Tennis 15-0)

- 1974-75: Member of the U.S. Olympic Educational Committee in Ancient Olympia, Greece

- 1976: President of Tennessee College Physical Education Association

- 1977: President of Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

- 1978: Inducted into Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

- 1978,1981: Director and Host of the National  Junior College Golf Tournament

- 1986: City of Pulaski named street in fron of gymnasium "Kermit Smith Drive"

- 1989: Martin Methodist named its field "The Kermit Smith Athletic Field"

- 1992: TJCCAA named its Hall of Fame room "The Kermit Smith Hall of Fame Room"
